"If you’ve raced with men on foot and they have worn you out, how can you compete with horses? If you stumble in safe country, how will you manage in thickets by the Jordan?" (Jeremiah 12:5). Our journey is intended to be more than simply "stumbling" through the days while the world "wears us out.” We are made to experience the thrill of "running with horses” and to navigate life amongst the "thickets." The RWH blog focuses on both the spiritual race of which Jeremiah speaks, and the physical act of running that I absolutely love. In short, it's where "the miles meet the Message" to provide insight, perspective & encouragement that might enable you & I to successfully run either of the races set before us. May our course be purposeful and may we be passionate in our pursuit of the abundant life He desires for us.

ROCC Run For God - Run YOUR Race (week 3)

In Jimmy V's highly inspiring 1993 ESPY speech, he says, and I paraphrase, "there are three things that we should do everyday; laugh, think and be moved to tears." It's possible that our week 3 RFG study accomplished all three (at least with the instructor it did).  This past Monday night (3/4/13) we introduced Ben Komen to the group.  The video is posted below, and it is well worth 8 minutes of your time. Ben demonstrates the true spirit of perseverance and our longing to belong.  We need to run our own race, at our pace and given purpose. However, we do often need others to help us along that journey.

In scripture study we took a look at the three devotional workout verses for week 3. Read through them again, and look to further your understanding of the context and possible application in your daily life. In short, finish the race, be careful of anything or anyone cutting in on your race and getting you off course, and keep looking forward, forgetting what is behind and run the race ahead.

Finally, in Running 101 we focused on gear. There were examples of various running related items that you might need, want or keep in mind as your running moves beyond RFG . If you have any questions, just let me know. I have included a slide depicting the titles and a brief description of a few suggestions for books about running. We concluded 101 with an overview of the ROCC 5K to be held on May 11th. The links are provided below for registration and more details.

Everyone is doing such a great job. This week is really important for building base and allowing us to move up to more running time in week #4.  Trust the plan and run YOUR race!
