"If you’ve raced with men on foot and they have worn you out, how can you compete with horses? If you stumble in safe country, how will you manage in thickets by the Jordan?" (Jeremiah 12:5). Our journey is intended to be more than simply "stumbling" through the days while the world "wears us out.” We are made to experience the thrill of "running with horses” and to navigate life amongst the "thickets." The RWH blog focuses on both the spiritual race of which Jeremiah speaks, and the physical act of running that I absolutely love. In short, it's where "the miles meet the Message" to provide insight, perspective & encouragement that might enable you & I to successfully run either of the races set before us. May our course be purposeful and may we be passionate in our pursuit of the abundant life He desires for us.

2013 Mantra Unveiled ..... (drumroll please) .....

As the clock ticks down on 2012, it is time to release the official 2013 running / life mantra. As with previous years, much energy was spent trying to determine that "just right" word, or phrase, that I will rely on over the course of the next 365 to inspire and motivate.  And, as with previous years, once it came to me, I knew it was right. (For those of you unfamiliar with this annual ritual, the following link will catch you up on the importance of, and thought put into, previous mantras : RWH Mantra History).

So, as the new day dawns, and the training runs kick off, and the challenges come on unexpectedly, and the mid-race walls push me to the limit, I will repeat the following (which, yes, is the title to Matt Redman's popular praise song) :

10,000 Reasons!

There are several applications to this mantra, these include; the many reasons that I have to be thankful, the many reasons that I won't take the day for granted, the many reasons that I absolutely love to run, the many reasons that I want to give my all in each pursuit, the many reasons / relationships that I am so blessed to have in my life, the many reasons that I worship and praise our God, on and on and on.

In short, ask me what will keep me going and encouraged in 2013, and I'll tell you that I have 10,000 reasons to make the most out of every day and every encounter. It's hard to quit with so many reasons to keep going.  Additionally, the lyrics to this song took on special meaning this past year, as described in this previous post :  10,000 Reasons

Finally, with every mantra comes an annual scripture verse.  For 2013 that verse is Ephesians 5:15-16.  Taken from our fall small group study, I really like the practical guidance offered from Paul's words of instruction and encouragement.

"Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity,"

Wishing everyone a very Happy New Year and a healthy 2013.  May you also have 10,000 Reasons "for your heart to find" perseverance, gratitude and strength.
