"If you’ve raced with men on foot and they have worn you out, how can you compete with horses? If you stumble in safe country, how will you manage in thickets by the Jordan?" (Jeremiah 12:5). Our journey is intended to be more than simply "stumbling" through the days while the world "wears us out.” We are made to experience the thrill of "running with horses” and to navigate life amongst the "thickets." The RWH blog focuses on both the spiritual race of which Jeremiah speaks, and the physical act of running that I absolutely love. In short, it's where "the miles meet the Message" to provide insight, perspective & encouragement that might enable you & I to successfully run either of the races set before us. May our course be purposeful and may we be passionate in our pursuit of the abundant life He desires for us.

Let the Games Begin!

In less than 24 hours, London will officially usher in the Games of the XXX Olympiad, and for the following 16 days I will be as caught up in the Olympic hype as anyone. Ever since I can remember, which by the way is Montreal 1976, I have been fascinated with the games. So many great moments come to mind just thinking back; Lake Placid hockey ... Mary Lou ... the Dream Team ... the always unpredictable torch lighting ceremonies ... the '84 LA games in which we won dozens of free Big Macs thanks to the Soviet boycott ... attending the '96 Atlanta games.  When it comes to the Olympics, I am all in.

So why are the Olympics so appealing? For me, it is partially due to a competitive nature that attracts me to even the most obscure of contests; think the opening round of table tennis. But it's more than that. I have always been a sucker for pageantry and story-lines. For suspense and achievement. For learning something new, (quick, name the five events in the Pentathlon), and expanding my horizons. I appreciate seeing the 'best of the best' gathered in one place, regardless of political or socioeconomic differences.  Where else is it possible to hold an Iranian vs. Israeli wrestling match, or to recognize Jamaican bobsledders!

Now, you might be asking yourself, "Self, what do these games have to do with the Running with Horses theme?" Well, aside from the general inspiration and encouragement to rise above that will be on display in London, let's not forgot the two major reasons that we ALL watch the Olympics ....... the Women's and Men's Marathons! These events take place on August 5th and 12th respectively. Live broadcast around 6:00 a.m. EST. I will be back to give you a course preview and a reminder to cheer on Kara, Desiree, Shalene, Abdi, Meb and Ryan.  You will NOT want to miss it.

Alright, time to check out the schedules, confirm the popcorn and Diet Pepsi supply and get ready to keep track of the medal counts. I, for one, am ready to let the games begin!
