"If you’ve raced with men on foot and they have worn you out, how can you compete with horses? If you stumble in safe country, how will you manage in thickets by the Jordan?" (Jeremiah 12:5). Our journey is intended to be more than simply "stumbling" through the days while the world "wears us out.” We are made to experience the thrill of "running with horses” and to navigate life amongst the "thickets." The RWH blog focuses on both the spiritual race of which Jeremiah speaks, and the physical act of running that I absolutely love. In short, it's where "the miles meet the Message" to provide insight, perspective & encouragement that might enable you & I to successfully run either of the races set before us. May our course be purposeful and may we be passionate in our pursuit of the abundant life He desires for us.

Beat The Heat 5k - July 21st

Many of our RFG friends have asked about summer race suggestions that will help them sustain their newly discovered interest in running. One highly recommended event is the Beat The Heat 5k on Saturday, July 21st, near BB&T Field. With over 750 participants last year, and a rare 6:30 pm start time, this annual run has become one of the better known races in Winston-Salem. Additionally, it was recently recognized in Running Journal magazine as one of the best "under the radar" races in the south.

I have not yet been able to schedule this one into the calendar, but this year I do plan on running.  If you have continued your workouts since our study closed, you will be in great shape for your next PR come mid-July.  If you have fallen off a bit, no worries. You have over 8 weeks to start back into regular runs and still be in great shape as well.  Either way, this looks like it will be a really fun race and exciting atmosphere.  Hope to see you there.(Oh, and start hydrating now!)
